Sunny Side Up!

Olivia + Joy- shoulder bag, Ashley Benson for Bongo- shorts, Hollister- top, Aldo- sunnies,  Elle- Sandals

Everyone says you have to beat the heat in the summertime.  But how do you beat that big yellow ball in the sky that's blazing white-hot all day?  I say, if you can't beat 'em...join 'em! :)  I've got my own yellows and whites -- including the cutest little yellow shorts speckled with sequins.  The white top was comfy but a bit boring, so I did a little "customizing" to create the fringe effect.  (Don't ever be afraid to experiment;  this was very easy to do and gives the shirt a kind-of sassy look.)  And pavement so hot you can fry an egg on it?  Not in these sandals!  You can't beat the sun, but you can be just as bright in your own way.  And, if you can't beat the heat, then just generate a little of your own.  :)

Cotton Candy, Anyone?

Zara- tee-shirt, Chloe- sunglasses, Target- neon bag, Gap- skirt, Soludos for J.CREW- Dali Espadrilles
Essie neon nail polish in Flirty fuchsia, AVEDA- star coral nourish-mint lipstick  <3

One of life's simple pleasures is going for a nice long walk in the evening.  If you can find a local park with a paved walkway near the water and plenty of beautiful scenery, so much the better.  And, if there's a little shop nearby that sells cotton candy...hmmm -- it's been a long time since I've had cotton candy, so why not?  Among the things I discovered on this evening: cotton candy in the hot sun tends to start melting -- see how fluffy it is at the start?  Well, my advice is, don't take too long eating it! :)  Light and airy is the way to go when you're expending energy outdoors in the summer, even if it's just walking;  you don't want to wear anything that's going to cling to you in the heat.  An oversize tee and a bouncy little skirt like this let the air flow around me and help keep me cool.  And these just may be the most-comfy shoes ever!  As I walked, and stopped here and there to admire the view, I remembered that when we were kids, we were always outdoors all summer long -- hot weather wasn't going to keep us from having fun.  Why should it stop us from having fun now?  And, if you want to feel a little like a kid again...well, you might want to see if there's a place nearby that sells cotton candy!  :)

Hope you're having fun evenings yourself!

Lots of love,
Shey xoxo

Community Pride

T.J Maxx- top, Sans Souci- shorts, Coach- sunglasses, Rock & Republic and DKNY- accessories,
Gucci- hobo bag, Vera Wang- Sandals, Essie's nail polish- Lime light

It never ceases to amaze me how many beautiful little treasures you can find in your own back yard...places and things you might pass a hundred times without ever looking at them.  Here, about a mile from my house, I found this pretty little park tucked into the downtown.  You can tell a lot about a community by how they remember their heroes;  people here are proud of their heritage.  It was a perfect spot for an early-evening stroll, and, with the temperature dropping into the mid-80's (and finally bearable!), I decided to pull a few surprises out of my closet.  I bought these lace shorts over a year ago because they were so cute, and, waiting for warmer weather, I put them away -- and then forgot about them, until now!  :)  I love the zipper blouse, which is exactly as light as it looks in the photos and just floats on my shoulders.  And the sandals with the spikes on the heels...well, they were irresistible, and, even though Vera's idea of size 6 is a tiny bit larger than mine, I HAD to have them!  Goodbye for now, Mr. Soldier;  I hope you enjoyed my visit as much as I did.  :)

Love lots,
Shey :) xoxo

Give Yourself a Break!

J.Crew- Top, Michael Kors- Belt, Chloe- Sunglasses, Gap- Skirt, F21- Ring, Rampage- Sandals,
     Chinese Laundry- Hobo Bag

Outdoor shopping plazas are a lot of fun...and a lot of walking.  Even the most-dedicated shopper needs to take a break, sit down and relax once in awhile.  (My advice on that?  Wait 'til your guy decides to "just browse around a bit" in a sporting-goods store!)  So find a nice bench in the sun or shade and settle in with a fun book -- I love Chelsea Handler, and there's never a dull moment reading "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang."  And look, I even found a building whose colors match the ones I'm wearing! :)  Light pastels are perfect for summer because they take on a soft glow in the sun without absorbing all that heat like dark colors do, and they're very easy to match together.  And it helps when your sandals are not only cute but very, very comfy for all that walking.  So you can relax AND be chic and sporty, all at the same time!  A couple of minutes, a couple of pages, a lot of laughs with Chelsea, and then you're ready to jump back into the serious business of bargain-hunting.  Good luck and have fun until next time, my dear blogger friends!  :)

Three Scoops, Please! ♡

Urban Outfitters- Cardigan, Bloomingdale's- Tube Dress, Sondra Roberts- Shoulder bag,
Jessica Simpson- Sunglasses, New York & Company- Sandals

On a warm summer evening, you may find yourself needing to take a break and get yourself an ice cream cone.  Actually, even if you don't NEED to, do it anyway!  We have a great, old-fashioned ice cream parlor right in our neighborhood, and now I know why people are so nostalgic for them -- because they're so cute and so much fun.  So what if you're having dessert just before going to dinner?  Your only problem will be what yummy flavor to choose...so make sure they give you a lot of little samples! =)

This side-trip to the ice-cream shop was proof that simple things often give you the greatest pleasures. Simple fashion choices are often the smartest, too.  The tube dress clings comfortably, the bag is a perfect match with the dress, the light cardi moves with the breeze, and...well, grey goes with everything, doesn't it?  And I love the sandals!  Oh, and the ice cream?  It was so good, even the cow couldn't resist!  =)

An Evening Stroll ♡

Abercrombie & Fitch- Dress, House of Harlow- Sunglasses, Romeo & Juliet Couture- Cross body bag,
Kelly & Katie- Sandals, Essie's nail polish in chubby cheeks.

How many places in your own neighborhood do you drive by all the time without ever really looking at them?  Sometimes it's not a bad idea to leave the car parked somewhere and just go exploring those places -- especially if you're going out for a walk after dinner anyway.  Burn off a couple of those calories as the heat of the day begins to subside, and discover a few of those beautiful local sights you've been missing.  Sometimes, I just have to stop, sit and take in the splendor of the early summer evening, like inhaling the scent of fresh flowers.  But I can't sit still for long;  who knows what little visual wonders await me right around the next bend?  I just have to remember where I parked!  =)

The "Rights" of Spring ♡

Chloe- Sunglasses, Top- T.J. Maxx, F21- skinny belt, Banana Republic- Pants, Jewelry- BCBG MaxAzria- watch,
Pandora charms- bracelet, Dooney & Bourke- Bag

When springtime arrives, Mother Nature puts away her drab winter greys and browns...and so do I.  It's time to step out into the warm sunshine and join in the bright promise of re-emerging life -- in greens and violets and creams.  And break out the short sleeves and open-toe shoes again!  (The green watch is the real deal-maker.)  The spring air just invites you to celebrate;  how can you turn that invitation down?  =)

Waiting for the Train to Come ♡

7 For All Mankind- Jeans, Gap- Top, Nine West- Wedge, Jewelry- Pandora charms & Silpada,
Michael Kors-Wristlet Purse, Chloe- Sunglasses, Essie nail polish- mint candy apple

You're going someplace fun and you don't want to miss the train, so you arrive early...and then you wait.  So you might as well be comfortable as you sit, and pace, and look up the tracks, and sit again.  Traveling light not only means the clutch instead of the big bag, but light clothing that lets your body breathe and maybe catch a little breeze, too.  And you'll be glad you remembered to take your "sunnies".  Not only that, but...  Oh, wait, there's the train -- gotta go!  =)
